DO IT LATER
As this entry demonstrates - sometimes we have to do it later. When I started this blog, Sundays at 7 pm is when I’d publish it. Well it’s Monday and now is when I’m getting it done, in the early hours.
Why? Because when kids need us, want us, we have to move everything out of the way for them. The work emails. The important phone call. The research. Writing. Reading. Checking in on friends. Planning your event. Just do it later. Its true that we have competing deliverables - none more important than our little ones.
Yesterday, Sunday, got away from me that I forgot to write this. When I finally realized I hadn’t, “I’ll do it in the morning,” I told myself. It was late, I was worn down, and so later it is.
And that’s okay. We have a lot going on. It is important not to be hard on ourselves as we raise kids. If done right, its a hard thing to do. You’re always tired. Time is always limited. The last thing we need is to meet an invisible made up standard of being a parent. Or an adult. Likely, we’re doing the best we can. Yet, somehow at night we question if that’s good enough. I believe if we’re asking ourselves these type of questions - its because we’re doing the best we can. That, is a good place to be when raising kids.
So don’t be concerned about delaying. Moving it to later. Waiting for the kids to go to sleep or when they aren’t home. Strategic delay is a great way to try and get it all done.
